In a presentation to the delegates at Vegas Cosmetic Surgery 2014 on 20th June, Dr Michael Gold discussed the potential for Ultherapy, an ultrasound-based skin tightening system, to be used for the treatment of acne.

According to Dr Gold, Ulthera – the manufacturers of the product – have recently submitted a clinical article for publication describing study results for acne treatment.

In the study, 22 patients with moderate to severe acne were treated with Ultherapy, using the 1 mm transducer (Amplify tip) for superficial skin treatment. At the three and six-month follow-up, a significant number (80% to 90%) noticed improvement. Patient satisfaction was around 80%.

However, despite these positive results, pain control continues to be an issue, with most patients in the study reporting moderate pain during treatment.
