UK skincare manufacturer Medik8 has launched the new H.E.O mask designed to target dry skin.
According to the company, the H.E.O. Mask is a two-step overnight mask formulated using humectants, emollients and occlusives.
The first step of the overnight mask is a hydrating water-based gel, containing the humectants hyaluronic acid, glycerin, urea, amino acids and sodium PCA. Medik8 explains that this is designed to work to bind and hold water in the upper layers of the skin.
The second step of the overnight mask is a face cream, formulated using emollients such as ceramides, squalene and linoleic acid that aim to strengthen and nourish the skin's lipid barrier, as well as primary occlusive dimethicone to help lock moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss.
Daniel Isaacs, research director of Medik8, commented, “Combined together these three elements are our ultimate solution for dry and dehydrated skin. Humectants are conditioning agents that regulate water levels in the skin and are able to retain moisture. Emollients, on the other hand, are long chains of saturated fatty acids and can use their skin-identical lipid properties to form a waterproof barrier in the upper layers of the skin. Finally, occlusives are mainly oil-based and are made up of large molecules that are too big to penetrate the skin and instead maintain the water content of the skin and reduce transepidermal water loss.”
