Promoting knowledge, understanding and the highest ethical standards. Issues covered during the day include a comprehensive package of knowledge and skills based around the following: Awareness- Definition of BDD, associated problems and differentiation between BDD and other mental health conditions. Recognition- How to spot the signs of BDD. Risks- Common pitfalls and risks when working with BDD as an aesthetic or cosmetic practitioner. Reflection- Reflecting on personal practice. Enhancing awareness of what you bring into the room when working with clients and identifying helpful ways to approach clients. Practical tips- Knowing what to do when concerns arise and where to sign post clients for additional support. While it is not your role to treat BDD you will likely be a first port of call for those experiencing symptoms of it. With clients who are experiencing such difficulties it has been discovered that fewer than 10% will be satisfied with treatments they receive, which could leave you open for criticism, complaints and legal action. With this in mind it is worth considering what you can do to work in the best interest of both your client and yourself to uphold your reputation within this rapidly expanding industry.
