Aesthetic regulation update provided in Parliament session

Written by...

Lucy Powell MP, Leader of the House of Commons, has confirmed that a response to the consultation on the licensing of non-surgical cosmetics is in progress.

During a Parliamentary session, MP for Bromsgrove and the Villages, Bradley Thomas said, “We face an emergent healthcare crisis in towns and communities across the country as demand for non-surgical aesthetic treatments rise. This is particularly fuelled by social media and societal pressures on young people. It often takes place in unregulated high street environments and places pressure on the NHS.”

He went on to ask when we can expect a government response, and if a parliamentary debate will be held.

Powell said in response, “I know there are plans in place to bring forward the measures that [Thomas] described. I will ensure the House is updated when they are ready.”

The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners has since confirmed that we will receive a response to the consultation from the Government by the end of January. Aesthetics will report as soon as more information becomes available.
