An investigation by 5 News has exposed human derived exosomes being used in clinics across the UK.
The investigation saw 5 News investigators call 50 clinics across Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, London and Liverpool to identify how many were using human derived exosomes. 40 clinics were happy to tell investigators what brand of exosome they use, most of which offered plant-based or salmon derived serums, but almost a quarter admitted to products that were derived from human stem cells, according to 5 News.
Human derived exosomes come from cells, tissues or products of human origin such as umbilical cords or fat cells. In the UK and EU, human-derived exosomes cannot be used for cosmetic purposes and must not be injected.
A Department for Business and Trade spokesperson commented,“Cosmetics containing exosomes from humans are banned in the UK. Although we have not seen an increase in reports of non-compliance, we urge anyone with concerns to contact their local Trading Standards department or Citizens Advice.”
