Consultant plastic surgeon Mr Tunc Tiryaki has been honoured with a Medal of Honour & Outstanding Contribution for Humanitarian Efforts by the UK’s Parliamentary Society.

Mr Tiryaki’s efforts within the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) have delivered medical care to those in need, often in challenging and crisis-stricken environments around the globe.

During his speech, Mr Tiryaki highlighted his breakthroughs in biotechnology and regenerative medicine, while emphasising that his humanitarian work remains the most humbling part of his career. His journey into humanitarian efforts began after witnessing the aftermath of the 1999 earthquake in Turkey, inspiring him to dedicate himself to help others in crisis.

As Chair of the Humanitarian Programs at ISAPS, Mr Tiryaki has led volunteer missions in Syria, Sudan and Kazakhstan. His work has varied from surgeries for cleft palates and burn injuries, to changing care for women affected by female genital mutilation (FGM). Mr Tiryaki comments, “Through our efforts, we weren’t just healing physical scars; we were restoring dignity and a sense of self-worth.”

He also drew recognition towards the growing presence of female surgeons leading humanitarian efforts within ISAPS, applauding their bravery and dedication, commenting, “Their passionate involvement continues to change lives in disaster and conflict zones.”
