Surgeon sets sail around the world for charity

Written by...

Consultant plastic surgeon Mr David Gateley has embarked on a round-the-world sailing race to raise money for UNICEF and Child Action Nepal.

The founder of DRG Plastic Surgery in Harley Street and nakedhealth MEDISPA in Wimbledon set sail on September 1 and will spend at least 33 days at sea on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Mr Gateley is joined by a crew of 60 people and is taking part in the first part of the race – a 7,250-mile trip from the UK to Uruguay.

Mr Gateley explained that he has chosen to support UNICEF and Child Action Nepal as he regularly visits the country to offer teaching support and perform surgery at a specialist hospital in Kathmandu. He said, “Sailing in the race is a dram for me, but unfortunately many children worldwide don’t have access to basic medical and surgical care, let alone the chance to fulfil their dreams. Both of these charities work tirelessly to help disadvantaged children and I hope that I can raise much-needed donations to help fund their vital work.”
