A study presented at the South Beach Symposium Medical Dermatology Summit has indicated that a retinoid/alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) cream formulated with salicylic acid can improve skin clarity in adults.

The study enrolled 19 adults aged 25 to 45 years with mild to moderate blemish-prone skin. The participants followed a skincare routine which included a cleanser, moisturiser and SPF. Researchers assessed participants’ Investigator’s Global Assessment Scale scores as well as pores, skin tone, and fine lines and wrinkles at baseline and weeks four, eight and 12.

The data showed improvement from baseline, and patients reported high levels of satisfaction. At week 12, patients had 50% improvement in skin clarity, 25% improvement in pores and 16% improvement in skin tone.

On the results, the authors commented, “A double-conjugated retinoid/AHA cream containing salicylic acid demonstrated significant and early visible improvements in skin clarity and pores over 12 weeks.”
