04 May 2020

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has released a new surgical resource document titled ‘Local Resumption of Elective Surgery Guidance’, as a guide for facilities that are preparing to resume elective surgery once COVID-19 has peaked in their respective areas.

The guidelines provide information about how to understand both the local facility capabilities such as beds, testing and operating rooms, as well as potential constraints such as the lack of workforce.

It also includes ‘five phases of care’, which addresses ensuring safe, high quality and high-value care of the surgical patient.
