Pharmaceutical company Merz Aesthetics delivered a specialist masterclass for practitioners on April 23 at The Memoir Club, London.
Hosted by consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeons Mr Dalvi Humzah, Mr Thomas Pidgeon and Ms Nathalie Cain, the event brought together clinicians for a full-day educational workshop.
Merz Aesthetics collaborated with anatomy workshop organisation Surgical Sculpture to deliver the masterclass. The session introduced a hands-on learning format centred on surgical sculpture techniques, as delegates engaged with a 3D-printed half skull model, wax, sculpting tools and pliable 3D-printed neurovascular structures.
The workshop included specific focus groups on various regions, such as sensory nerves, eyes and periorbital region, temporalis and masseter region, alongside facial vessels. Alongside the interactive sculpting session, surgeons presented cadaveric dissection footage to further illustrate and deepen understanding of anatomy.
Speaking with Aesthetics, Mr Humzah said, “The Anatomy Masterclass series has been brought together to deliver an innovative approach to aesthetic anatomy education. Delegates acquire knowledge through active participation and peer discussion, building facial anatomy hands-on. This model provides a rigorous, cost-effective alternative to human cadaveric tissue, resolving both the financial and ethical challenges associated with traditional anatomical teaching.”
