Consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon Mr Dalvi Humzah has launched a new ultrasound development course.
The course is based on the principles of ‘spaced learning’, a technique which enhances and enables retention of knowledge in the current technological learning systems, explains Mr Humzah. The course will enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills in a staged approach.
According to Mr Humzah, the first stage involves a new online learning app with seven modules on the ‘Introduction to the Basics of Ultrasound’ with concepts, uses and safety aspects included. The app has an interactive learning system with gamification. The app is followed by a webinar session with the trainers Mr Humzah and aesthetic practitioner Dr Kim Booysen to discuss and explore the introduction course in detail.
The second stage is a hands-on session where practitioners can use ultrasound to practice identification of structures and explore in detail the uses of ultrasound in practice. This session is face-to-face with the trainers for practitioners to use their own handheld device to gain more experience in its function, explains Mr Humzah.
The third stage is a scientific injectable session where the ultrasound scanner will be used to look at specific regions and inject under ultrasound guidance. Complications and identification of displaced products will be examined as well as skills of using this to deal with complications.
Mr Humzah said, “The new generation of handheld ultrasounds provide a means of shining a light into the depths of tissues while injecting. This staged approach will enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills to an optimal level and enhance their practice in aesthetics whilst providing a safer treatment pathway for patients.”
The
course will take place in the Midlands on March 2.
