Aesthetic doctor to host complications workshop in Manchester’s ED

Written by...

Aesthetic practitioner Dr Alex Parys is set to host a talk as part of the Northwest Emergency Medicine Regional Training Day taking place at North Manchester General Hospital on December 19.

The talk will focus on a range of aesthetic-related complications that often present to the emergency department (ED).

Dr Parys said the aim is to educate ED doctors on potential presentations as well as differential diagnoses and emergency management of aesthetic treatment complications.

“These complications range from bruises and herpes simplex outbreaks, to vascular occlusions and filler related blindness. There will be a particular focus on differentiating lip complications, as these are the most common presentation to ED from feedback from colleagues in the region, but are easily misdiagnosed as most doctors have not received aesthetic training,” Dr Parys stated.

The event is organised by Northwest School of Emergency Medicine and will run for the whole day covering additional topics including sexual assault, alcohol withdrawal and detox services, genitourinary medicine and HIV management and FRCEM Final OSCE stimulation.
