BCAM unveils campaign to promote patient safety

The British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) is launching a nationwide campaign ‘Vet It Before You Get It’ on October 21.

According to the company, the campaign encourages patients to download and send a safety-focused questionnaire to clinics ahead of booking a consultation.

The new campaign follows the release of BCAMs annual review, which revealed 3,002 complications were reported to its members in the past year, and 67% of BCAM doctors treated problems caused by other practitioners.

As a result of the findings and to help combat patients feeling intimidated to ask key questions at a consultation, the form asks whether the clinic is CQC-registered, what the practitioner’s qualifications are, what product will be used and what aftercare and emergency support will be provided.

President of BCAM and aesthetic practitioner, Dr Sophie Shotter, commented, “Whilst we still don’t have the necessary rules in place, it is very important that the public do all they can to safeguard themselves from individuals who are carrying out these procedures. BCAM members and I support this campaign and hope members of the public will take this action to support their safety.”
