The Scottish Parliament hosted a key discussion on March 5, addressing the need for stronger regulation in the beauty and aesthetics specialty.
The event marked the launch of the Scottish arm of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology’s (BABTAC) T.I.M.E. (Training, Insurance, Monitoring and Evidence) initiative, which aims to help consumers identify safe and qualified practitioners.
Attended by Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), specialty professionals and training providers, the event highlighted concerns around inconsistent standards and consumer safety. Discussions focused on the importance of practitioner accountability and clearer regulatory oversight.
Lesley Blair, CEO of BABTAC, commented, “The lack of legislation in our specialty has left consumers vulnerable to unsafe practices, leading to a rise in ‘botched’ beauty treatments in recent years. T.I.M.E. is a simple but powerful tool that helps consumers make informed choices and supports qualified professionals.”
