New mentorship programme launches

Aesthetic nurse prescriber Michelle McLean has outlined the development of a mentorship programme designed for practitioners seeking to build confidence in clinical practice.

According to McLean, the programme extends beyond injection techniques to include clinical decision-making, business strategy, pricing, branding and professional development, as well as activities such as publishing, awards participation and speaking opportunities.

McLean states that the programme runs over six months for a small cohort of four delegates, as she describes the format as combining monthly mentorship days, in-clinic shadowing, case-based teaching, access to standard operating procedures and clinic resources and ongoing remote support.

According to McLean, the programme also includes a specialist facial palsy module informed by their work with the Facial Palsy Association. She adds that one fully funded scholarship place will be offered annually to a practitioner with less than 18 months’ experience, awarded through an application and interview process.

Discussing with Aesthetics, McLean commented , “The mentorship programme is about bridging the gap between knowing how to perform a treatment and having the confidence, business understanding and clinical judgement to build a long-term, respected career around it. Sitting on the judging panel for The Aesthetics Awards ‘Rising Star’ category this year also influenced the decision to include a scholarship place. The standard of entries was incredibly high, but it was clear how much faster some practitioners could progress with the right support early on. That’s exactly what the scholarship is designed to provide.”
