On the Scene: WACS Annual Conference, Cardiff

Written by...

On November 2, more than 150 delegates attended the Welsh Aesthetic and Cosmetic Society (WACS) annual conference held at The All Nations Centre in Cardiff.

The agenda for the day was led by chair of WACS, consultant endocrinologist and course lead for the Diploma-MSc programme in Aesthetic and Cosmetic Medicine, Professor Steve Davies. It saw talks from the likes of consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon Mr Dalvi Humzah, chair of the JCCP Professor David Sines, consultant psychiatrist Professor Tayyeb Tahir and nurse prescriber Jane Laferla, amongst others.

The conference also provided delegates with the opportunity to observe demonstration sessions delivered by experienced practitioners in lip augmentation, mid-face augmentation and dermal peels. As well as this, it also featured taster sessions on emerging therapies designed to assist business including treatment of eyelash hypotrichosis and medical interventions in the management of obesity. There was also a small exhibition of 10 aesthetics companies.

Professor Davies commented, “All too often in the aesthetic world, practitioners feel that they are in competition with their neighbours. WACS was established to bring the community of practitioners together in Wales with the aim of delivering evidence-based, best practice in aesthetic medicine. The quality of talks delivered by national experts more than fulfilled these aims.”

Sam Roads, marketing manager of diploma-MSc.com added, “We were delighted to support this year’s WACS conference. It proved a success for us last year and this year’s event was even better. As a provider of the Cosmetic and Aesthetic Medicine Diploma and MSc course we were delighted to interact with an audience so keen to develop their knowledge in this emerging specialty.”

A delegate at the event, GP Dr Suzanne Thickens shared, “This year’s conference was excellent! The talks were of high standard and were as good as any event I have been to. I particularly enjoyed learning new about the emerging area of eyelash hypotrichosis which can easily be incorporated into my aesthetic business.”
