The Royal Society of Medicine’s (RSM) Section of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery is set to host a multidisciplinary masterclass on November 18.
The event, titled Dentofacial Aesthetics: A Multidisciplinary Masterclass, will examine how facial appearance, function and structure are connected, and how collaboration between dentistry, surgery and medical aesthetics can improve patient outcomes, according to RSM.
Held at the RSM, the association explains the event will cover whole-face assessment, treatment planning and the management of conditions that affect both appearance and function, including temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), facial asymmetry and facial palsy.
The organisers add that lectures, case-based panel discussions and Q&A sessions will explore the benefits of coordinated care and the limitations of treating the face through a single discipline. Speakers include consultant orthodontist Dr Farhad Naini, consultant plastic and craniofacial surgeon Mr Jonathan Britto and consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon Mr Mehmet Manisali, to name a few.
Dr Souphi Samizadeh, president of the Section of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery, Royal Society of Medicine, commented, “Function and aesthetics cannot be separated. How the jaws, teeth, muscles and airway work shapes how the face looks and how it ages. Good care starts with a systematic, evidence-based assessment of the whole face by the specialists who understand each part of it, not with a product or a technique. This masterclass brings orthodontists, maxillofacial and plastic surgeons, periodontists, dermatologists and scientists onto one platform, independent of specialty, so that patients receive safe, appropriate treatment planned as a team. To our knowledge, it is the first meeting of its kind in the UK or internationally.”
