New insurance broker launches

Specialist insurance broker Whetstone has entered the healthcare sector.

According to the company, it aims to provide GPs and consultant surgeons working in private practice with stronger, contractual protection against a litigation landscape. Led by CEO Kevin Culliney and founded by a team with experience in healthcare indemnity, Whetstone positions itself as a modern alternative to traditional discretionary medical defence arrangements.

The company is designed to address growing concerns that many clinicians are unknowingly exposed to significant legal and financial risks. Whetstone says these risks are being amplified by AI-assisted complaints, heightened patient scrutiny and fragmented working patterns, all of which are contributing to a rise in complex negligence claims.

Culliney commented, “We deal with really good people trying to do the right thing, but mistakes do happen occasionally, and when a clinician or hospital group comes to Whetstone, they are looked after by people absolutely on their side. That’s what we’re here to do.”
