The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has appointed consultant plastic surgeons Mr Anthony MacQuillan as president and Mr Mike Tyler as vice president.
Succeeding Ms Nora Nugent who has held the position for the past two years, BAAPS shares that Mr MacQuillan will focus on strengthening patient safety, addressing the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated and manipulated imagery on patient expectations. He will also expand on training opportunities for the next generation of aesthetic surgeons, according to the organisation.
Mr Tyler was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon in 2001 and is also a member of the BAAPS Council. According to organisation, the new leadership team will continue BAAPS’ work promoting the highest standards of aesthetic surgery, patient safety and professional training across the UK.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr MacQuillan said, “BAAPS is one of the UK’s highest-profile aesthetic surgery organisations, and with that comes a responsibility to help the public understand what safe surgery looks like and what can realistically be achieved. My ambition is that anyone completing a BAAPS fellowship or training scheme can genuinely say they have received comprehensive training in aesthetic surgery, helping the UK maintain and strengthen its position as a leading destination for safe, high-quality aesthetic surgery.”
