Aesthetic practitioner Dr Souphi Samizadeh has been appointed president of the Royal Society of Medicine’s (RSM) Section of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery.

Following the section’s founding President, Dr Christopher Rowland Payne, she becomes the first woman to hold the position. Dr Samizadeh explains that in her new role she is committed to fostering a multidisciplinary approach that brings surgeons, physicians, dentists, healthcare professionals and scientists together to learn from one another.

As president, she will support scientific progress by advancing research, discovery and knowledge within aesthetic medicine and surgery, explains RSM. Her priority is to ensure that practice remains evidence-based, guided by robust proof rather than trends. Dr Samizadeh will also champion a patient-centred approach, with safety and wellbeing placed first at all times.

Dr Samizadeh commented, “It is an honour to take office as president of the Section of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery at the RSM, as the Section’s second president. I was one of the three founding officers of the Section, alongside Mr Christopher Rowland Payne, our founding president, and Mr Jonathan Britto, our current president-elect, and it has been a privilege to see it grow from an idea into an established part of the Society. My priority is to keep the Section a true home for multidisciplinary medical aesthetics and surgery; expert led, grounded in science and evidence, and independent of any company or product. Over the coming year we will bring together surgeons, dentists, dermatologists, physicians, healthcare professionals of various backgrounds and scientists through our annual congress and a series of focused meetings. I hope to widen the Section’s reach, support the next generation of clinicians, and raise the standard of education and scientific discussion in our field.”
