A new association, the UK Society of Medical Longevity, has launched to establish standards for longevity medicine in the UK.

Founded by aesthetic practitioner Dr Mayoni Gooneratne, the organisation aims to provide governance, evidence-based standards and a professional home for doctors practising longevity medicine both within and outside the National Health Service (NHS).

As part of its launch, the society has announced its inaugural scientific meeting, which will take place on November 13 at Electric House, Notting Hill. Open to doctors registered with the General Medical Council, the event will explore the science of healthy ageing and practical approaches to integrating longevity medicine into clinical practice.

Dr Gooneratne commented, “As the curator of the Medical Longevity Summit, my job is to stay on top of the science and ahead of the curve.  Unfortunately, there has been a massive influx of practices and advice that may not always have the strongest medical backing. Having completed my medical longevity certification, I can clearly see where the science lies, where the gaps are, and where the specialty sits. I want to help doctors who are practising true longevity medicine to do so safely. I have seen the massive benefits for patients who are experiencing these changes in health. We created the society to give doctors the space to do this and to develop the guardrails that will help clinicians practise the art form that is longevity.”
